Artist Biography

Marcelo Leonardo Pazán: Artist Biography

Marcelo Leonardo Pazán is a versatile artist who seamlessly blends traditional and digital techniques in his creative practice. Born in Cuenca, Ecuador, Pazán has made Port Credit, Ontario his home, where he continues to evolve his artistic vision and share his passion with the community.

Pazán's artistic journey began with formal education at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Architectural Sciences, where he spent a year honing his understanding of form and structure. He further developed his skills by obtaining a Certificate in Computer Graphics from Toronto's Academy of Merchandising and Design, laying the foundation for his unique ability to merge traditional and digital art forms.

With over three decades of experience, Pazán has cultivated a diverse portfolio that showcases his profound interest in design, colour, and texture. His work spans a wide range of media, from traditional painting techniques to cutting-edge digital creations. Pazán's artistic exploration often involves experimenting with various materials such as paint, lacquer, epoxy, and multi-textured surfaces, as well as incorporating innovative technologies like ChromaDepth 3D and digital displays into his compositions.

Pazán's professional career includes a significant 17-year tenure as a graphic artist at the Toronto Star, where he honed his skills in visual communication and developed a keen eye for impactful imagery. This experience continues to influence his artistic approach, bridging the gap between fine art and graphic design.

Since 1992, Pazán has been actively exhibiting his artwork, gaining recognition for his unique style and technical prowess. In recent years, he has focused increasingly on photography, notably contributing to the "Morphology" project, which documents the development of the Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area. This project exemplifies Pazán's ability to capture the dynamic interplay between natural and urban environments.

Today, Marcelo Leonardo Pazán works as a full-time professional artist and is the proud owner of Pazán Gallery in Port Credit, Mississauga. The gallery serves as both a studio for his ongoing artistic endeavours and a permanent exhibition space for his diverse body of work. It also offers services in custom picture framing, digital photo restoration, and fine art sales, allowing Pazán to share his expertise and passion with clients and art enthusiasts alike.

Pazán's commitment to his craft extends beyond his practice. He is an active member of the local arts community, participating in numerous exhibitions and events. His involvement in various civic initiatives, including serving on Mississauga's Economic Resiliency Task Force and as a board member of the Lakeshore Corridor Community Team, underscores his dedication to fostering creativity and community engagement.

Through his multifaceted artistic practice, Marcelo Leonardo Pazán continues to push the boundaries of visual expression, inviting viewers to explore the intersection of traditional artistry and contemporary innovation.
